WBA Honor Band

The WBA Honor Band is an elite ensemble showcasing the exceptional students that we have in our WBA community. The instrumentation composition is winds, brass, and percussion (color guard will be considered in future years!). The WBA Honor Band will perform "United Together," an original composition written by John Meehan, Scott Johnson, and Brian Dinkel. Listen to a MIDI recording of it here! This year's virtual performance will be aired at our online season finale event.

Do I have to audition to be accepted in the WBA Honor Band?

How do I audition?
Please review the instructions above.

What music do I use to audition?
Please review the instructions above.

Why doesn't WBA or CBDA provide the audition sheet music for winds?
Due to copyright law, we are not able to distribute the winds audition sheet music, it must be purchased for your use.

Do I have to purchase the audition music myself?
Typically, the music the audition uses is already part of your school's music library and doesn't require purchasing (please check with your director). However, if the sheet music is not in your school's music library, it is not uncommon for the school district to allocate money to purchase sheet music or for the supporting booster organization to assist by purchasing it. Please consult your director for additional information.

What is the audition/registration deadline?
Saturday, September 26, 2020.

Can I submit auditions for more than one instrument?
Yes. Each audition will need to be submitted, and paid for, separately.

Can I be accepted more than once if I submit multiple auditions?
Yes. Because video makes this possible, we will take the best performers including a single person more than once if they show excellence across multiple instruments.

How much does it cost to audition?
$35 for each submission.

How do I pay for my registration/audition?
Payments are per registration/audition by credit card only. There are no refunds. Register here!

If I'm a director and I want to pay for my students' auditions is that possible?
Please contact the office at admin@westerbands.org.

What do I need to register and submit my audition?

  1. Your contact information and t-shirt size.
  2. A link to your audition video.
  3. A credit card to pay for the audition fee.

How do I submit my audition video?
Auditions should be submitted via a link to an unlisted YouTube video. (example: https://www.graphitas.co.uk/blog/how-to-upload-an-unlisted-video-to-youtube/) Your video link will be provided to us during the registration process.

How should my video be put together? Single take? Multiple takes? Multiple videos? What order should the music be in?
Our end goal is to give a single video link (that you provide us) to the adjudicators to review all of your audition material. It does not have to be a single take, it can be multiple takes stitched together. The order of audition music should be as noted on the CBDA instructions on their website (CBDA High School All-State - Set D) for winds or as we listed for percussion.

How am I evaluated?
The WBA Individual Music Sheet will be used to evaluate your performance.

Where can I find the WBA Honor Band Adjudication Sheets?

When will I know if I was accepted to the WBA Honor Band?
We will send you an email in the first two weeks of October.

If I earn a performance opportunity in the WBA Honor Band, what's next?
You will receive an email with sheet music and a t-shirt in the mail. Please record your video in the t-shirt provided. The deadline to submit performance videos is October 26.

What music will the WBA Honor Band be playing?
WBA has commissioned an original composition titled "United Together" written by John Meehan, Scott Johnson, and Brian Dinkel.

How should I submit my performance video?
You will need to email us a link to your video file (unlike the audition videos, we'll need the actual video files for the performance videos). Any file sharing service will work including Drive, Dropbox, iCloud, etc. Please make sure your file has the appropriate sharing settings so we can download it to create the season finale performance video. We will provide additional information to the accepted students via email.
