FAQ

What are the WBA I&Es presented by System Blue?
Compete in a variety of categories against other students from all over the west to see whose solo/ensemble performance takes first place. Performances will be adjudicated by our world-class adjudicators; categories will be based on the types of videos submitted.

How can I watch the WBA I&Es?
WBA I&Es can be viewed with a monthly subscription to FloMarching ($30). On their website you may see $12.50 -- please be aware that that is the monthly amount of their annual subscription ($150). For the purposes of this fall, the monthly subscription is the most economical option.

What instruments are included?
Any instrument/voice is welcome.

How do I participate/register?
Register here.

What are the rules?
2020 WBA I&Es Rules.

Can I arrange and/or perform copyrighted works?
Only if you have acquired the appropriate rights to do so.

What is the submission/registration deadline?
Midnight Sunday, November 8, 2020.

Can I submit multiple entries?
Yes*. Each entry will need to be registered, and paid for, separately.
*You are limited to 1 submission per instrument/category. E.g. you are not able to submit 2 tuba solos or 2 brass ensemble entries (made up of the same personnel).

Can I win in more than one category?
Yes, but ya gotta be the best!

What are the categories?
We will determine the categories based on the registrations we receive. For example, if we get 1 flute solo, 2 clarinet solos, 2 tuba solos, 3 trombone solos, and 18 trumpet solos we'll have a "solo woodwind" category, a "solo low brass category", and a "solo trumpet" category. You can apply a similar logic to the ensemble categories.

How much does it cost to participate?
$25 for individuals, $35 for ensembles.

How do I pay for my submission?
Payments are per submission/registration and by credit card only. There are no refunds. Register here!

If I'm a director and I want to pay for my students' auditions is that possible?
Yes, you can register on behalf of your student(s).

How do I submit my video?
We will include this information in your registration confirmation email.

How should my video be put together? Single take? Multiple takes? Multiple videos?
All videos should be recorded in a single take. Virtual ensembles (multiple participants each recording from their own location) may produce multiple videos together to create their ensemble video, but all the source videos should be comprised of single-take videos.
If you're using production software, please do not use Apple ProRes encoding. The preferred encoding is H.264.

How am I evaluated?
The I&Es sheet will be used to evaluate your performance.

When will I know the results?
We will announce the results at our season finale event on Saturday, November 21, 2020.

How can I listen to my commentary?
When you register, we will email you a special code. Keep that email! After the submission deadline has passed, we will reach out via email to let you know how to retrieve your commentary using that code.
