Western Band Association exists to ensure a high quality of performing experience, educationally sound, and to fully support the total band program for all the schools who perform at a WBA sanction event.
Since November 8th when the fires started, air quality has been at unhealthy levels in many areas in California. In order to ensure the health and safety for all those involved during the WBA championship weekend, a tough decision was made based on the Air Quality Index. WBA is extremely disappointed and is sorry that the decision had to be made to cancel the 2018 WBA Championships. We all understand this pales in comparison to the devastation the fires have caused to families and property. Our hearts are with all those affected by the wildfires.
WBA has been in contact with all ticket buyers and is working to provide ticket sale refunds for those who requested. Please note, this may take a week to process. We thank you for your patience.
WBA will be honoring payment agreements with judges and event staff to get full pay for the weekend even though the event was canceled. Thank you to Caleb Rothe for the amazing job coordinating with the judges throughout the weekend.
The registered bands will receive a credit for the 2019 season for the amount of your 2018 WBA Championships registration cost. WBA will also be mailing the registered championship participant directors a copy of the program, their member silicone wristbands, and patches in the upcoming week.
PepWear is offering 20% off and free shipping on 2018 Championship Merchandise on their website shop.pepwear.com/wba. The Championships Program will also become available on the PepWear site.
We will be recapping 2018 with a Post Season Survey that will be available in the next two weeks, as well as a 2019 Event Host Interest Survey.
As we look forward to 2019, directors please hold the date for the 2019 WBA Annual Meeting on Sunday. January 27th, 2019, in the So Cal area. More information on this meeting will be released soon as it’s available.
The Western Band Association pursuit to provide exceptional quality education, performance excellence, and overall support of all the participating marching bands is an ongoing and continuous effort. We have grown over the past year with a better understanding and outlook for the needs of the organization, through highly valued answers on surveys and transparency that is a continually evolving process between administration, adjudication, and directors.
Thank you and we are looking forward to truly extraordinary 2019.
